Chiropractor melbourne

What truly differentiates doctors of chiropractic from any other healthcare professionals is the fact that chiropractors are the only professionals who are trained to diagnose and treat what are called spinal subluxations.  The word “subluxation” comes from the Latin words meaning “somewhat or slight” (sub) and “to dislocate” (luxate).  So the term ‘vertebral subluxation’ literally means a slight dislocation or misalignment of the bones in the spine.

When your spine and nervous system is not working properly, your body cannot function properly either.

Chiropractic care is a gentle system of health that recognizes the primary function of the nervous system in controlling and maintaining the health of your body. If there is intereference to the normal flow if nerve information (subluxation), then there can be changes in the body such as inflammation, muscle spasm, pain, changes to normal organ function and other indicators of dis-ease.

So, Chiropractic care can assist with bringing your body back into better balance and getting your health back on track, naturally. Chiropractic recognises the body’s innate ability to heal itself so that treatment is focussed on removing the cause of the problem (subluxation).

Many conditions respond really well to chiropractic care. People consult a chiropractor for:

  • Wellness
  • Scoliosis
  • Postural Problems
  • Ergonomic advice
  • Headaches (including tension headache, migraine, cluster headaches)
  • Hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder complaints
  • Foot, ankle, knee and hip complaints
  • Pain: especially low back pain, middle back pain and neck pain

Newborn babies undergo a fair amount of spinal pressure during gestation and birth and sublaxations can make our newest people very irritable. Colicky babies, irritable babies and babies with torticollis or bengin hypotonia can all benefit.

During pregnancy , the extra pressure on the spine and other joints can be uncomfortable. Chiopractic care can help to maintain optimum spinal function which will minimise discomfort and may assist in an easier birth. Other discomforts of pregnancy such as carpal tunnel syndrome, headaches, foot over-pronation to name but a few, may also be safely managed by your chiropractor.
Dr. Sandra Buchanan can also use a gentle technique called the Webster Technique which can be really helpful for turning breech babies.

Adults often come for chiropractic care because they have hurt themselves….back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, headaches & migraine etc. Chiropractic care is great for this but did you know that chiropractic care can also be a part of your health and wellbeing lifestyel to help you maintain optiumum health?

Elderly people, even those with pain from osteoporosis can benefit greatly from gentle chiropractic care. Dr. Sandra Buchanan has quite a lot of experience in geriatric care and is especially interested in helping to maintain movement and flexibility in older people. Even joints that are arthritic can feel better if even slightly more movement can be achieved.

Dr. Sandra Buchanan uses a wide variety of techniques such as Diversified, Activator, blocks, and Logan technique. The technique used is chosen by various factors including patient age, presenting complaint and patient preference.

Dr. Sandra Buchanan also uses a technique called N.E.T. (Neuroemotional technique). This technique can be helpful when physical therapy is not enough. It helps to change the body response to emotions that may be causing the patient to be “stuck”. Further information can be found at www.netmindbody.com

Dr. Buchanan works in close partnership with general practitioners and is happy to work with patient who have an Enhanced Primary Care Plan from their GP so that they can clain 5 visits per calander year on Medicare. WorkCover and TAC claims also welcome.
